From Victoria International Airport (YYJ) to the University of Victoria

On arrival at Victoria International Airport (YYJ), ground travel options include rental cars, the airport shuttle, taxi, and BC Transit buses.

YYJ AirportShuttle
You will need to make a reservation to be picked-up from the University of Victoria. Prices for UVic are $29 CAD one way and $52 CAD return including all taxes. Please purchase your ticket on the website or call +1-778-351-4995 or +1-855-351-4995 or email reservations@yyjairportshuttle.com to make a reservation.
You will be dropped off at the bus exchange on campus and will have to walk to the Residence buildings–400 m (440 yds). If you email
info@anwgconference2017.com AFTER you make your YYJ AirportShuttle reservation and give us your arrival time at the University of Victoria, we will arrange someone to meet you at the bus loop and help with your luggage.

Taxis
A taxi costs about $50 CAD from the airport to the University. Tell them you need to go to the University of Victoria Residence parking lot, Lot 5, off Sinclair Rd.

BC Transit
Travelling by bus from the airport will require at least one transfer. BC Transit offers a Trip Planner to help you. Your starting point will be Victoria Airport and your destination is the University of Victoria. Purchase a $5 CAD day pass on your first bus. Cash only. No change given.

The Residence Services Office is open 24/7 so if you are arriving late in the evening, you can check into your room, then check-in for the conference the next morning.

Driving from a Ferry to the University of Victoria

From the Washington State Ferry Terminal – Sidney, BC to the University of Victoria

To use your GPS, your destination is UVic Parking Lot 5, Saanich, BC V8N 1B5.

All passengers and vehicles on the Washington State Ferries must be screened for entry into Canada. After being cleared to enter, leave the ferry terminal and turn left on to Ocean Avenue. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Fifth Street. Stay on Fifth Street as it changes its name to Lochside Drive. After about 0.5 km (0.25 mile) keep right to continue toward McTavish Road, the airport and Victoria.

You now enter an interchange with two roundabouts. Follow the signs for Highway 17 and Victoria. You will enter the interchange at the east side roundabout, cross the highway, and go around the west side roundabout taking the third exit to Highway 17 south to Victoria. (If you miss your exit, don’t panic. Just go around the roundabout again.)

Highway 17 is a mixture of traffic-light controlled intersections and full interchanges. Drive south about 17.5 km (11 miles) to Exit 7–McKenzie Avenue and the University of Victoria.

Turn left onto McKenzie Avenue at the traffic lights at the bottom of the exit ramp. Continue on McKenzie Avenue for about 7 km (4.5 miles). After the Shelbourne Street intersection, make sure you are in the left lane of McKenzie Avenue. Shortly after the intersection with Gordon Head Road, McKenzie Avenue becomes a single lane as it crosses the university campus. Stay on McKenzie Avenue passing McGill Road, Vikes Way, and Gabriola Road. At the Finnerty Road roundabout, take the second exit (straight across) on to Sinclair Road. After the roundabout, look for Parking Lot 5 on the right, opposite Clarndon Road. Turn right into the parking lot. The Residence Office–Craigdarroch Office–is located on the upper side of the parking lot. You will check in here.

From the Black Ball Ferry Terminal – Downtown Victoria –
to the University of Victoria

To use your GPS, your destination is UVic Parking Lot 5, Saanich, BC V8N 1B5.

All passengers and vehicles on the Black Ball Ferries must be screened for entry into Canada before leaving the ferry terminal.

There will be Canada 150 Celebrations taking place around the Inner Harbour when you arrive on Tuesday June 27 and Friday June 30th. If you use your GPS, it will lead you through the heaviest traffic in Victoria. Instead, ignore your GPS for a short while to avoid the worst of the traffic and you will catch up with your GPS in about 10 minutes.

 As you leave the terminal, TURN RIGHT on to Belleville Street. Continue on Belleville Street as it bends left, then right and changes its name to Quebec Street. Quebec Street then bends left and right and changes its name to Kingston Street. Once you are on Kingston Street, watch for Superior Street on your left soon after the left bend. Turn left on to Superior Street and continue five blocks to Douglas Street. Turn left on to Douglas Street and immediately bear right following the signs for Highway 17. You are now on Blanshard Street and your GPS should catch up with you. Continue on Blanshard Street for 7 blocks to Fort Street.

Turn right on Fort Street. Continue on for 3.2 km (2 miles). At this point, Fort Street changes its name to Cadboro Bay Road. Continue on Cadboro Bay Road for 4 km (2.5 miles).

Turn left onto Sinclair Road. Continue uphill along Sinclair Road for 750 m (0.5 mile) looking for Parking Lot 5 on the left opposite Clarndon Road. Turn left into the parking lot. The Residence Services Office is located on the upper side of the parking lot. You will check in here.

  From BC Ferries Terminal – Swartz Bay – to the University of Victoria

To use your GPS, your destination is UVic Parking Lot 5, Saanich, BC V8N 1B5.

After driving off the ferry, you will be on Highway 17. Highway 17 is a mixture of traffic-light controlled intersections and full interchanges. Drive south about 25.6 km (16 miles) to Exit 7–McKenzie Avenue and the University of Victoria.

Turn left on to McKenzie Avenue at the traffic lights at the bottom of the exit ramp. Continue on McKenzie Avenue for about 7 km (4.5 miles).
