Meals at the Conference

With the exception of the conference banquet in the evening of Sunday, July 2nd, you will need to purchase all your meals either on or off-campus. Bed and breakfast is provided with the Dorm Room option only. All other University accommodation options DO NOT include any meals.

The University of Victoria Food Services facilities have both gluten-free and vegetarian options, but cannot guarantee allergy-free facilities. If you have severe food allergies you may want to investigate food sources prior to your visit.

Breakfast on Campus

Staying in a dorm room with bed and breakfast?
Cadboro Commons Dining Room, in the Cadboro Commons building, will be open
ONLY for ANWG conference registrants staying in a dorm room with bed and breakfast. Open from 7:30 am-9 am, June 28 through July 3.

When conference registrants with the bed and breakfast option check in at Residence Services, you will receive dated coupons for each morning of your stay. In order to gain entrance to the breakfast buffet, you will need to present that day’s coupon.

The breakfast buffet will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, sliced fruit, mini pastries, toast, coffee and tea

Staying in a cluster unit or an apartment?
Caps Bistro, in the Cadboro Commons building, is open from 7 am – 10: 30 am everyday for breakfast, so any guests not staying on campus or who do not have the dorm room/bed and breakfast booking are welcome to purchase breakfast in that space. The menu is the same as the breakfast buffet above.

Places to Eat On-Campus

All facilities on the campus accept both Canadian and American cash, credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express), and Canadian debit cards. Please note, American cash will be accepted AT PAR.

There is an Toronto Dominion ATM in Mystic Market which accepts Interac, Visa, Plus and Cirrus.

Mystic Market Cafeteria
Mystic Market is the main University cafeteria located in University Centre close to the Clearihue building where many conference classes are taking place. The cafeteria consists of unique food kiosks that offer a diverse range of in-house prepared meals as well as a general store for pre-packaged foods and quick convenience items. Mystic Market is also the first ZERO Waste facility on campus.

Biblo Cafe
Located in the Mearns Centre/McPherson Library close to the Clearihue building where many conference classes are taking place. The cafe features specialty coffees and teas, sandwiches, wraps and buns, salads, pastry rolls, samosas, cakes, squares, pastries and other sweets. Open Monday to Friday, 8 am – 3 pm.

Mac’s
Located in the MacLaurin Building where some conference classes are taking place, this cafe offers made to order sandwiches, wraps and salads, homemade soups and chili, pastries and other sweets, and a wide selection of beverages. Mac’s made to order sandwich bar and salad station closes 1 hour before closing time. Open Monday to Friday, 11 am – 2 pm.

Nibbles and Bytes
This cafe is located in the Engineering Lab wing not too far from the Bob Wright Building where some conference classes are taking place.  Nibbles and Bytes offers freshly made pizza, wraps and sandwiches, salads, breakfast sandwiches, pastries and other sweets, and a range of beverages including fresh coffee and tea. Open Monday to Friday, 11 am – 2 pm.

Felicita’s Campus Pub
Felicita’s Pub is a student-owned and operated campus pub named in honour of Felicita Gomez – beloved SUB custodian and friend of UVic students since 1967. Felicita’s is located in the Student Union Building, close to the residences. Open Monday to Wednesday  11:30 am – midnight, Thursday and Friday 11:30 am – 1:00 am.

University Club of Victoria
This scenic University of Victoria cafe sits next to a pond and serves burgers, sandwiches & salads. Lunch is served Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Dining Room. The University Club is open for dinner Monday through Saturday (Saturday 5:00pm – 10:00pm only!). The Club is closed on Sunday. Patio dining is available May through September (earlier and later, subject to weather conditions.)

Victoria has a huge variety of places to eat within a reasonable distance from the University. Most will accept American cash, although the exchange rate offered may be close to par.
